WHEN TO SEE A EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST FOR
DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS (DVA) MEMBERS?

If you are part of the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), seeing an Exercise Physiologist can be crucial for maintaining and improving your health. Exercise Physiologists specialise in creating personalised exercise programs that can address a range of health issues and enhance overall well-being. Here’s why it’s important and how you can benefit from Medicare rebates.

IMPORTANCE OF SEEING A
EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST?

  • Chronic Disease Management
Exercise Physiologists are trained to help manage
chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis and more through tailored exercise programs.

  • Injury Rehabilitation
They can assist with recovery from injuries, ensuring you
regain strength and functionality safely and effectively.

  • Mental Health Support
Regular exercise is known to improve mental health by
reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety and PTSD, which are common among veterans.

  • Improved Mobility and Balance
Specialised exercise programs can enhance your
mobility and balance, reducing the risk of falls and enhancing your independence.

  • Personalised Care
Exercise Physiologists offer individualised attention and care,
ensuring that the exercise regimen is suited to your specific needs and goals.

HOW IS IT REBATED
BY MEDICARE?

The Department of Veterans Affairs, in collaboration with Medicare, provides rebates for allied health services, including those offered by Exercise Physiologists. Here’s how it works:

  • GP Referral
To access these services, you will need a referral from your General
Practitioner (GP). The GP will assess your condition and provide a referral if deemed necessary

  • DVA Health Card
If you hold a DVA Health Card, you may be eligible for support
and services. This card can provide access to Exercise Physiology services as part of your ongoing health care plan.

WHY IT'S IMPORTANT
FOR VETERANS

For veterans, maintaining physical and mental health is paramount. Regular sessions with an Exercise Physiologist can lead to significant improvements in your quality of life. They provide expert guidance on safe and effective exercises tailored to your unique needs, ensuring you stay active and healthy.
